Singapore has made its mark on the world stage once again, emerging as the sixth-highest city in terms of branding in the latest Brand Finance Global City Index. This prestigious index, published by a London-based brand evaluation and strategy consultancy, ranks cities based on their brand power and overall public perception.

The index was compiled through a global survey of 15,000 individuals from 20 different countries in September. The respondents were asked to rank 100 cities based on key performance indicators that reflect how ideal each city is perceived to be for living, working, studying, visiting, retiring, and investing in.

In addition to this, the respondents were also asked to associate specific attributes with each city. They were presented with a list of 45 attributes grouped under seven pillars, such as Business & Investment and Culture & Heritage.

Singapore’s impressive overall ranking was largely due to its exceptional performance in the business and investment pillar, where it placed third globally. This pillar takes into account factors such as ease of doing business, economic strength, and the city’s support for start-ups. Singapore also scored high marks for its low crime and violence rates.

According to Alex Haigh, managing director for Asia Pacific at Brand Finance, Singapore is considered the crown jewel of the ASEAN region when it comes to city branding. “Boasting a strong economy, attractive investment opportunities, and world-class infrastructure, Singapore solidifies its position as a top global financial center,” he remarks.

Globally, London maintained its position as the world’s top city brand, followed by New York, Paris, Tokyo, and Dubai. With its impressive performance in the Brand Finance Global City Index, Singapore has proven once again that it is a force to be reckoned with on the world stage.
