Pan Pacific Hotels Group has expanded its presence in Malaysia with the addition of Gurney Bay Hotel, located in Penang, to its portfolio. The newly added hotel features 368 keys and will be operated under the group’s Parkroyal brand. This marks the group’s seventh hospitality property in Malaysia, following the February opening of Parkroyal A’Famosa Melaka Resort.

The hotel is situated along Gurney Bay, formerly known as Gurney Drive, on the coast of Penang and offers stunning views of the sea and Georgetown. To ensure a top-notch stay for guests, the group will take over operations of the existing Gurney Bay Hotel and begin a phased soft renovation on September 1.

According to Pan Pacific CEO, Choe Peng Sum, the Gurney Bay Hotel’s prime location near Georgetown city centre will complement the group’s existing Parkroyal Penang Resort in Batu Ferringhi, a popular beachfront area. Both properties are expected to benefit from the expansion of Penang International Airport, which is set to become Malaysia’s second-largest airport after Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

In line with the group’s expansion plans, the addition of the Gurney Bay Hotel showcases Pan Pacific’s commitment to growing its presence in key destinations around the world. With its well-established Parkroyal brand, the group aims to provide guests with exceptional hospitality experiences through its diverse portfolio of properties.

In other news, Pan Pacific Hotels Group is set to open its first Kyoto hotel in January 2021, adding to its growing list of properties in the Asia Pacific region. Additionally, the group recently launched the flagship Pan Pacific Orchard in Singapore, as part of its global brand expansion strategy.

The group’s parent company, UOL Group, has also been making strides in the hospitality sector with the opening of the Parkroyal Serviced Suites in Jakarta’s Thamrin Nine skyscraper. However, the group’s 1HFY2023 earnings were down 64% year-on-year to $135 million mainly due to lower fair value gains. With its continuous efforts to expand and provide exceptional services, Pan Pacific Hotels Group remains a key player in the global hospitality industry.
